Feild Musem and Brock's moves

Image
I can't believe we've never taken Brock to the Field Museum. I wanted to check out the tattoo exhibit they had (and got to watch celeb tattooist Oliver Peck live tattoo in the makeshift studio they had there!) and of course it was a great excuse to get Brock to a new place. I actually don't have any pictures from our first visit. He loved it and it was a much better deal to become members so the picks below are from our second visit. Just note that Brock's highlights from the first visit were the penises at the tattoo exhibit (silicone bodies that tattoo artists adorned) and the highly excitable Tibetans shown on the videos getting their tattoos "blessed".  Underground exhibit. We are bugs at the bug restaurant. Brock is our waiter.  Cicadas hatching from their old skin...  We've been watching a lot of Shark Tank lately. We thought maybe the "Cicradle" (business proposition via Holly, trademarked name via Matt) would be a huge

School Daze

Quarterly (or thereabouts) update on Brock's doings at school.  The kids for walks or to the park when weather permits; this is the communal tree out in Lincoln Square near their school.  One day the furnace in the building needed fixing, so the kids went to a play area, Pickle's Playground for the morning. Brock loved it!  The kids have started a music class on Wednesdays. The teachers are from the same place that Brock used to go to, Old Town School of Folk Music. Jambo comes every Wednesday to introduce the class to instruments and sing songs.  And parachutes! This was always a favorite of Brock's in music class. He generally preferred to "work" the parachute as opposed to going under it.  Brock has been making friends I think! He has talked about how he plays "dragons" and "fire" with Apollo, Jack and and Patrick. Apparently "dragons" was

Brock's Holiday Show!

Image
After practicing for weeks, singing "Navidad", "Turkey Pokey" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" Brock was ready for his moment in the gym. Here is the full cut in all it's glory.  Speed to 2:05 to get Brock's entrance. Although a little build up is good. You'll notice his now trademarked karate chop hello. He did a great job. He told us he was going to sing "Navidad" a lot but was going to be more quiet on "We Wish you a Merry Christmas". He also was very precise about standing behind, not on (Brock was clear to specify) the tape with his name. You'll notice him fighting to stand in his spot, he mentioned later that he was trying to squeeze in. It's great to watch him find us and then his face when he sees us. After that, the full on wave. Any how, seeing your child's first show is surreal and a total love rush. Sigh, I guess he's got some of my drama in him after all. There is the famous wav

Stuffing in Seattle

In lieu of the season, we were so thankful to get the Cerney crew together for some quality time and quality grub in Seattle hosted so generously by Mark and Melinda. They overcame foot operations and sinus infections to rally for a house full of glorious chaos.  "flying" to the gate in Chicago  Hour+ delays are nothing for Brock thanks to the endless antics of dear old dad  twas worth the wait, because on the other side we were met with grand smiles and balloons!  We were able to make it in in time for a stellar performance from Madeline on the keys, BRAVO! Brock almost made it through.   We were all rewarded for Madeline's grand show with a visit to the local fro-yo joint.  Next morning we got to walk Madeline to school... so close and such a charming place! We had to proceed home in Wizard of Oz style as commanded by Brock.  The next day the ladies ran amok among the pre-Christmas sales and feasted on the most addictive of
