weekend at sams

Image
These pics are old. For some reason this blog post didn't get published. I realized it was because I think I was waiting for a picture of Brock with Sam that mom has. I'll see if I can get it. In the meantime, take a stroll down memory lane to see Brock with a walrus and mom and dad dancing on their future grave. Minus a Miracle Whip jar and a beer funnel that dad insists will be conclusive additions. I forget what the jar was for, tips? Maybe just respect for the spread. Oh the fine print on the stone chokes me up, "Love can set you free". Jeeze look at that hunk of baby. That is my grandma and grandpa's grave. I never got to meet my grandfather, but I am told he was truly legendary in his time. Hired the first black teacher during his tenure as superintendent, went on a number of missions to Pakistan, and was just a true giver to the community. Hopefully some of him turned up in me and Brock! Joshua Thomas was the first Thomas to settle

Madison!

Image
Friend/family trippers wanted a change of pace and opted to check out a new town; Madison, WI was the selected destination. I guess a few folks had spent some time there in their kid-free days stumbling about State Street and thought that it needed to be seen again with fresh eyes. Ready for a nice car nap! Some initial goofing around once we settle into the house. That night we head to State Street for dinner. Here Brock is the only child who refuses to take a picture (without mom or dad) in the photo. Sheesh. We finally get one after dinner with Matt in the picture and me coaching on the side or something. Saturday morning we headed for Madison's famed farmer's market for breakfast (guava empanadas! and other delicious savory ones). Brock asked me to take a picture of him by the sun flowers, his new favorite.  But it was hot. and crowded. and we all realized we didn't need to bring cheese into a hot car. Luckily the capitol buil

Swimming Brock

Image
Brock is a superstar swimmer. He's been going to swim class for a while now, and he never stops impressing. Most of the days there are three kids in his class, and he has to take turns. But every now and then, those slackers cut class, and Brock gets Tom all to himself. This day, I happened to get a great seat on the glass so I took a couple vids. Enjoy!

Model man

Brock has been asking for me to take his picture or take a picture of a specific flower or "specimen". We went to the zoo during his week off of school and here are the unveiling of some of his requests.  Brock was very adamant about choosing this bird to ride on. It is an endangered species, but I'm not sure what it is or why he was so enamored.

Fix it Brock

Brock has been on a neat streak lately. When we clean up at night, Brock has been spending extra time, in his words, "organizing the house". He does a pretty good job and pushes in all the chairs and rolly puffs and likes to straighten the pillows. He has also been picking up the mop more and more (he has always enjoyed the mop, but is getting more regular about it) and swathing various surfaces. Additionally, Matt told me that yesterday morning Brock, without letting anyone know, apparently pulled the glue gun out of the drawer, plugged it in, and proceeded to perfectly glue back together three broken pieces of this plastic flower pot ridge (that we cut off of the pot of our new friend the ponytail palm; an incidence that turned into a total debacle). and now we come to the potty. Brock has been cleaning it about every other week and really gets in there. My genes are taking full credit for this. Love you Matt.

St. Louis Memorial Weekend

Image
A now annual event, we decided to head down to St. Louis in May to try to beat southern midwest heat. Success! It was a beautiful weekend. We couldn't rally all the troops on short notice over Memorial Day weekend, but we did dear friends the Narwani's on board for a two family trip to the city under the arch.  Already a monument has been made for our amazing son. No, wait, I spoke too soon, it's for that super famous Cardinal left fielder, Lou Brock. Well, fine then, we still can pose darn it. The day has come! We wait all year for this day! The City Museum! Brock has come miles in a year when it comes to climbing and he took off without hesitation, embracing most slides and almost all holes dark, and all latter-ish things that went up up up, down down down and all other which ways.  So as you know by now, when we don't have our wonderful sister-in-laws, we take a limited number of photos. It's also the City Museum, we're down on our hands and
