Word of Day

Image
My blue goo I got for Christmas is quite appealing to the young man.  Here he verbalizes one of the goo's best features. Yes, it's true.  Brock's favorite outfit is his tighty whiteys.  He's more of an au natural kind of guy anyways.

Passing time

Brock's newest word is Bible.  Perhaps his conscience has gotten the better of him; there have been some very obstinate/whirling dervish diaper changes lately. The New Testament is hilarious. In other news, Brock really is stack-master-flash.

A few things to say

Image
Brock helps with the sweeping. While enjoying a fresh cheese snack, Brock drops his cheese, leading him to discover an ancient lost cheese chunk from the bowels of under-the-recliner. Brock has two favorite numbers: 8 and 9. He will watch the microwave count down and yell, "9!" every ten seconds. Eight is also a huge hit, as you can see in this video (where he gets all 9-shy). He can also identify 4, but won't say it. I'm certain he's not yet grasped what these numbers really mean, but it makes me happy that he's such a big fan nonetheless. And lastly, a swinging video from the park. Brock loves a good underdog, And also, he has a nose.

Dancing Man

Here's another clip of Brock with his "happy and you know it" duck. His skills have measurably improved since Christmas.  Brock is not always super excited about bedtime. In this clip, he tries to extend bedtime by climbing off Holly's lap, turning on the record player, and dancing.

Word of the Day

Word of the day is impossible to keep up with.  Brock is now at a point where he will mimic several words per day.  They sometimes don't stick, and often when we ask him to repeat he gets very shy and smiley and quiet.  The ones that I catch I'll post! Here are some speech highlights that have not made it to video: dark sunshine flowers purple octopus sky honey small up down shoes socks box knox fox chicks cheese grapes eat

Brock continues on his new-word-every-day journey.  I am trying to keep up!  Here is yesterday's (although I have a very vague memory of him using it a week ago... I don't know...)

Brock continues to be a sponge for words and enthusiastically practices the ones he knows. It's incredible to hear how articulate some of his favorite words have become in only a few weeks, while still being completely stumped deciphering a new one he's trying to tackle. Here's a few clips of some talking.  There's a lot of weird and bold parenting advice floating around these days, and I know that some readers of this blog are familiar with the movement to remove the phrase "good job" from your parenting lexicon. I don't personally buy into it, but I do admire the concept of focusing your child on  the intrinsic value of their accomplishments over the short term pleasure of your praise. So anyways, I say "good job" to Brock all the time, but it's always in there, in the back of my mind: am I saying it too much? It's weird. Anyways, if you are conscious of it, and trying to cut back, you find how difficult it it to com

A little bit of Christmas

This year we loaded up the dodge charger (a rental that passengers Holly and Brock were much appreciative of) and headed off to Omaha. Mark and Melinda were there with Madeline and Max, and we had so much fun together. Brock was mesmerized by the hugeness of the tree and all its lights. He delighted in the presents and the paper and the treats, but most of all he fell head over heals for his cousins Madeline and Max. (especially Madeline) Wherever she went, Brock had to be. On the days that they spent at the Knights, Brock would go upstairs and wander the halls looking for her. It was adorable. It really made us realize how far away Seattle is, and we are super-thankful to have gotten in such quality time recently. Grandma and Grandpa planned a super fun week for us filled with water parks (Brock LOVED the slide), delicious food, shopping, and even a visit to a real live shopping-mall Santa Claus.   I have to apologize for being a little bit low on pictures. Whenever my siste

Planned to post a bunch more tonight but bottling took forever. Here's a quick pic and video of Brock helping me get ready. More stuff soon, I promise!

Walrus

Brock's vocabulary is exploding. It seems like every day he picks up one or two more words. His favorite is probably still "brush", but it has strong competition from "stars", which Brock always stretches out into "staaaars!" with wonder each time. (Glow in the dark ceiling stars are a real hit.) He mostly sticks to monosyllabic nouns, but he's not shy at all with his "bye byes" and "uh ohs". Yesterday he dropped a combo: "mom-brush!" (Non of his plethora of toothbrushes can possibly compare to the forbidden brush, so he begs.) Here he is working on his fourth two-syllable word: walrus.
