Brock continues on his new-word-every-day journey. I am trying to keep up! Here is yesterday's (although I have a very vague memory of him using it a week ago... I don't know...)
I got word that the corpse flower at the Garfield Park Conservatory was in bloom. A once in a decade occurrence that only lasts one or two days. The plant is nicknamed "corpse flower" because during its fleeting bloom it blasts a potent scent of rotting carnage into the world to announce its hope for fruition. Brock was quite pumped to meet the "big smelly flower". And here it is!: or, at least there it was. Not my photo. Apparently we got the memo late. This was our visual experience: As for our olfactory experience... another disappointment (?), only a slight garbage smell remained. But we still had an awesome time at the conservatory. Summer here opens up the outdoor gardens, where we saw Venus fly traps (a new love of Brock's in videoland) labyrinths, and nifty outdoor play areas. Brock on the x-phone. It's big, It's heavy, It's wood! Wow. This is my favorite part of our little trip, this awesome game that Bro...
I am bad at blogging now. Here are some shots of the children and their days at their lovely learning places! Alice in an "out of uniform day"... theme is "dress like a senior citizen" for the 100th day of school. Note her slot machine!!! Brock and his good buddies showing off their History Fair project, the Wright Brothers. Update: They got a perfect score on their project!!! Alice is class making something? Pretty sure it is not lunch. Alice on her share day. She made a picture of a sun out of the dead leaves of my palm. Epic. She was so proud of it! Alice on an out of uniform day "winter character", we didn't really have this in our costume repertoire, so Alice went with unicorn. They love winter. From a while ago, but a description of sharks. Alice working on her sight word flash cards in the classroom. "I scooted in the chair". I'm pretty sure. Fun game they play where they fish for words then do something with them...
Some highlights from the last quarter of school! There were many themed days. Brock only picks the ones that appeal to him to dress for, here he is on Ken Vs. Barbie day...as Allen. Not picking side obviously. Alice on Zoo day...starfish! Kings and Queens day... Brock's school has a Festival of the Arts event, part of which where they are given a theme and every classroom decorates their room for an immersive experience. Brock worked so hard on his room, cutting out, "5000 leaves". He took his role as manager very seriously and went above and beyond. Entering, "The Enchanted Forest". On that theme, his class went with a four elements/ seasons lens. Here is "Winter", these ice sickles are now in Brock's room. Winter town. Full room with bestie Theodor and their beloved homeroom and literature teacher, Mr. White. Fire/ autumn town. This is Bartholomew. Brock, as manager, was dismayed there his underlings had made a horrible looking tree. I suggeste...
