Brock Loves Mommy

As Brock continues to get more verbal and repeats more of what we say, Holly and I have been actively awaiting the "I love you"s to roll in. About a week ago, I had the good fortune to be the first recipient. Brock and I were chatting on the stairs (a favorite hangout) and I told him I loved him. He immediately parroted "I love you," and I melted. I couldn't be sure he even knew what he was saying, but it was wonderful regardless. Mommy was in the kitchen, and I spent the next couple minutes trying to convince him to run up to mommy and repeat the magic words again, but to no avail. There were snacks to eat, and trouble to make.

The very next afternoon, Brock and I were playing in the living room when mommy came home. Brock had been on a pretty strange stretch of being very unwelcoming to mom. He'd be very focused on our play and not wanted it interrupted, so Holly would frequently come home to cries of, "no mama! no mama!" This day Brock ran excitedly to the front door and shouted, "mama! I love you! I love you, mama!" It was a fully unprovoked expression of love. There was much crying.

The next day after that, Brock and I were getting ready to go to the park. We were gearing up shoes and socks and Brock was being super snugly. I admit that at that moment I got a bit jealous and thought, "now would be the perfect time for Brock to give me MY unprovoked 'I love you.'" At the exact moment I finished my thought, Brock blurted out, "I love...Mommy!!" "I love mommy too, Brock."

Over the past week, Brock has frequently reaffirmed his love for mommy to me. It's wonderfully adorable and magical all at the same time. I'm still waiting for my first unprovoked "I love you" from him, but that's just fine. He makes it pretty clear that he feels that way every day. We love you too, little man.
