Birthday scooter

So we got Brock a stand up scooter for his birthday. In August. As now part of the life-long series, "What Brock learned from somewhere else than me" Brock apparently has been doing a bit of scooting during recess at preschool. He's no scootin' shark yet, but I am really happy he is finally asking to take out the darn thing. It wasn't even that hard to get him to put on the helmet! Here he is in action This all went pretty well. We made it about 6 blocks before the day's final wipe out. No flesh wounds, just a bit of a tumble and a knee bruise. Let me remind you that as new as Brock is to scootin', we are to scootin' spottin'. So we sorta weren't quite close enough to save him from a veer into the dirt to a forward plant. Since we had to then carry him and the scooter the rest of the way to the library and ice-cream I'd say we actually paid a higher physical price than Brock for the misstep.  Hopefully he won't

Brock's playground skills

Just wanted a visual aide to show how Brock can move now! Sorry if the angle was off, I was spotting him out of instinct. I totally didn't need to. Apparently, he does this kind of stuff all the time now. After spending nearly every moment with him for the last 3 years, I am now constantly reminded how much learning now happens without me at school.  It is sobering and inspiring at the same time. The man massively out bowled me today (noted that am a terrible bowler and he did have a giant pink dinosaur assist)! Sigh.

Brock has recently become quite the artist. Give a pen and some paper and he's set. The skills are really starting to come along too. What started as crazy scribbling and endless loops, has transformed into a true effort to make recognizable pictures. Brock has even mastered a few letters (though we'll save that for another post).  He also has become enamored with the solar system. Brock loves books about the planets and is always belting out random facts he's learned about the planets, as well as some extras he makes up about his favorite fake planet "wall-e." (Brock has never seen nor heard of the pixar movie of the same name. It's just a fake name to him that he made up and wall-e is a pretty crazy planet from the way he talks of it. When he gets a little older, i'll ask if i'm spelling it right.)  Brock classifies planets with a basic 3-question system:  -How big is the planet? (You can use your arms for this.)  -Can you build roa
