Winter is here

Winter is here in the midwest (and has been for a few months now) and it is a chilly snowy one. Which makes for many fun adventures. One weekend, we headed up to Geneva to attend the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Competition. My brother's best friend from Alaska, Eric was one of the sculptors and this was an excellent opportunity for a visit and to wear my mukluks.

This is Alaska's entry "Upstream" a cubist version of salmon spawning. Eric was one of a team of three to sculpt.

This is us in front f Eric carving away in the back ground. How we didn't get a picture of us with him is inexcusable.

And here is Nebraska! Notice the eyes and the pearl; ice pulled from the frigid throws of Lake Geneva. Nebraska won! With Alaska coming in second!

The octopus playing chess was cool too.

This is the kids snow sculpture area. This is a toilet with a turd in it. Very conceptual.

And here we are daring to traverse Lake Geneva itself. Two feet thick at least, no worries.

weeeeee!

Then to Sprechers for root beer and lunch. We met Eric here, but again, the documentation of which is missing and unforgivable.

Kaw!!

Chicago got a lot of snow. This is later Matt and Brock at a little sledding hill at a park near his school.

This is me buried in the snow on a different day

Matt scored the perfect tubes, pizza and donut. Surprisingly, Brock has moved onto pizza for his favored snugly inspirational food.

Oh Winter. And tomorrow it is supposed to be 58 degrees. Oh Chicago, you fickle beast.
