Illinois State Junior Disc Golf Championship

Image
(Brock prepares for the putting competition with a few of his fellow competitors. That's Sean in the middle.) This weekend Brock competed in the Illinois State Junior Disc Golf Championship, and I'm super proud of how he played and competed. About a week before the tourney, Brock had lost confidence in his putting stroke. He put in a ton of work in the basement every day finding a new putting style that would bring him more consistency and confidence, and it worked. He didn't miss a putt within 25' all day. Unfortunately, he ran into some deep deep ungrowth on a couple holes with errant drives, and his rival Sean played a great round, bumping Brock into 2nd place by 3 strokes.  The scorecard makes it look like Brock fell apart on the last hole, but that's not the true story of the tournament. We started on hole 6, and finished on hole 5 that day. It was a back and forth battle until Brock slipped up on holes 22 and 23, then he battled back and was feeling like he co

Alice is a swinger!

(video) Alice has always enjoyed being pushed on a swing for as long as you are willing. For the past month or so, she's been working on getting her own pumping rhythm down, and it finally clicked! Here's a short vid of her first few minutes after figuring it all out. She went on to swing unpushed for a solid forty additional minutes. She's a swing junky.  (video) Thankfully, Dad still has plenty of value to add.

Easter 2023 and MATT 40

Easter fell on the day after our return from our awesome spring break cruise! Be on the look out for that post in October (just kidding I hope). But the bunny still managed to make an appearance. Alice crushed this year! Let the puzzle begin! Found. Ahhh, bunny should have put it in with the egg cartons. Missed opportunity, bad bunny.    Brrr. Alice finds her basket in her dirty clothes. Rats. Laundry was the theme. This is where Brock found his basket.  Here was the Brock hunt break down, bunny might need to step it up to more math equations, Brock flew through. Except for one of those clues, the one that looks like a flower/ fan... more on that... Alice also few through, except for I think the closet one. There was a magic moment when Brock couldn't figure out the flower/ fan clue and Alice couldn't figure out the closet one. We encouraged the children to talk to each other, and they both instantly recognized the other's stumper. And baskets were had. Brock got this ama

Brock's Disc Golf Tournements

Brock has chosen disc golf as his top sport. He and Matt go out every other morning to play or do field work. He now beats me. Sigh. I have been neglecting my skills after all, and I wouldn't want it any other way. He has now won first place in all three tournaments he has competed in! And true, there were only two people (ha, or less in the first one) in his division, but I say bravo. He really did fantastic in them all and says that he does well under pressure. I had the pleasure of going to the last one, Rumble at Randall, on a truly beautiful day. The week before we went out to try the course. Set amongst a petting zoo and playground, we gave ourselves extra time to play.  Now it is the day of the tournament! Alice and I prove we were there We watch the tee off from a HIGHly organic seat! Up in the tree! Our family friends also have two boys who are getting into the sport. They have good athletic genes, so they did quite well. This is our friend Bill with his oldest Finn. Broc
