Talking with Brock
Brock has turned into quite the little linguist. He's a big fan of easy-to-recognize patterns such as, "how are you, today, Brock?" "Good," he will always reply. We're not sure he knows what it means, but he knows it's the right thing to say. He's a big fan of saying thank you, but he always says it, "coo-coo mama!" Even when I'm bringing him what he wants, mom gets all the thanks.
My favorite Brock sayings, however, come from when we aren't really talking, and Brock blurts out whatever he is thinking. Yesterday after a block of silence while walking back from the store, Brock blurted out, "no eat dice!!" I replied, "correct Brock, we don't eat dice." "No eat mama!" "That's right Brock, we don't eat mama either." Thinking a few moments, "eat woof!" "No Brock, we don't eat dogs." Brock apparently spends a lot of time thinking about what he can eat. Ask him what he wants to eat though, and you'll always get the same answer: "FOOD!" It's accurate, but not very helpful.
We're still working on numbers whenever we can. I usually ask him to count things. He's about 80% successful if there are <5 things. But on this walk from the store, he was asking for "more grapes," and I decided to flip the counting by asking him how many grapes he wanted. Brock had to think about this... "Two!" I gave him two grapes. He was delighted. After finishing them, he asked for more grapes once again. "Would you like one, two, or three grapes, Brock?" I asked. Much thought.... "Two!" "Ok, Brock. Here's two grapes." Brock looks at grapes disappointingly. "THREE!!"
"Ok, Brock. You can have three."
I think he's getting it.
