Brock's Imagination

I don't think there is a medium to truly do justice to the magic of a child's emerging imagination. I can't believe the little soul in Brock that I am getting more than glimpses of. The way that he composes words, situations and his reactions to these connective manifestations may be even more magical to Matt and I than Brock. It's so damn cool. This is what having kids is all about. Even as these moments become everyday affairs, I still am touched by them. This post was also started a few weeks ago. I have far too many stories of his imagination to add now, but here is a sample.

His art skills do not match his big ideas.

This is Matt adding on to the post...
Our first glimpses of Brock's imagination came right after we got back from Omaha. Brock asked to play with the fake-grass drying rack that we have, and proceeded to load it up with animals.

Once he was finished, he informed me that all of the animals were "on the train to omaha. Go visit grandma and grandpa." Heartwarming and adorable.

The next day he started naming objects different things, an egg was a "cupcake," his bench was a "boat." Being a slow-to-understand daddy, I corrected him a few times thinking he forgot what the objects were, before I finally got it. Brock has quite an imagination! Once I encouraged him he was off.

I think my favorite moment so far was when Brock had finished cooking a "cupcake" (yellow wooden egg) and was having his animals eat it. "Daddy take a bite!" I did. "Delicious cupcake Brock! Thanks for sharing." Then Brock took a bite and agreed it was quite good. Then he laughed and exclaimed, "We're both eating it! We're both eating our idea!" My mind was blown. He knows what ideas are? How real does imagination seem? So many questions about his mind to which i'll never get the answers.  (Side note: Brock will sometimes exclaim, "I have a monster idea!" which is a catchphrase on the Furchester Hotel, his favorite show. I always thought he was simply parroting words.)

Nowadays he's always dreaming up some crazy fun for him and his toys. They sail on boats, they have parties, and frequently help him build his towers. Brock even makes up conversations for them that he will narrate in the 3rd person. "'Can I come to the party?' said the cat. 'OK!'"

Here's a video of Brock imagining two of his favorite activities: eating cake, and pooping at the top of a very high tower.
