Alice is one

Yes. The little one is big! Look at that luscious little salami loving lady! From 5.3 lbs to the 65% percentile in just 12 months! Well done Al Pal. I am in shock that only one year ago my ankles were as big as my thigh. Good times.

I made what I felt was a very responsible choice, and got her glitter magnatiles for the big day so she would not have to steal Brock's (I'll say nothing about Brock stealing hers).

And this annoying thing with three heads was Alice's choice. Twice in the toy store she reached for it and chortled away at its incessant chirping.

And here is she is with Mr. Shape Sorting Snail. A delight from cousin Nate. Note that she has enjoyed all of her gifts! Except for whoever got her that vegetable, she does not like it.

Now it's party time. As usual, I did not take pictures of all my very hard work. But thank goodness some of my friends did. Since Alice is a baby, her birthday was about us! So I picked a narwhal theme and invited all our friends.

Alice's favorite is raspberries, so here is a chocolate raspberry sea unicorn (with an orange cake tail for Brock who does not like chocolate cake). I was pleased with the results!

Oh that scrumptious little party girl (yes, narwhals and mermaids adorn her party dress).

This is a take on gpaOmaha's famous margarita recipe, a Narwhalrita. I used blue Curacao instead of Triple Sec. Although it is difficult to see from the photo, that is a narwhal face carved into the butt of a lime with the straw for its horn. I have a new found love of bartending with drills.

Thanks for the party mom and dad. Now show me the salami.

It's her birthday, and birthday girl wants another pretzel stick.

My dear friend Leah. There is a narwhal mask on my face, a gift from the JakePoNate crew at Christmas time, sadly not captured in its rightful glory. Although I think there is still one lost in the alley that I could take a picture of retrospectively.

Not pictured here are many things that I am sad I didn't remember to photograph. Including a very impressive, if I do say so myself, carved Narwhal watermelon bowl, hummus with a cucumber narwhal breaking the garbanzo-beany waves, and two large narwhal sculptures Brock and I made out of the orange hazard cones, cardboard and masking tape. Such a shame. Matt also made a double smoked ham that was very tasty that both humans and flies enjoyed profusely.

Oh, and I had to make a birthday sign out of that amazing photo of Alice with the real narwhal that she befriended this past winter.

Ok, Brock's party is next week so I'll be sure to take pictures of that one (yes, this is foreshadowing).
