Happy Birthday Super Grandma and Go Dodgers

It wasn't too long ago that I learned my Grandma has secretly (at least to me) been a huge Dodgers fan forever, and is always watching their games. With her 90th birthday coming up, and no trips to Dodger Stadium under her belt, we decided it was well past time to take her to the show.

First order of business was picking up our Yoshinobu Yamamoto bobbleheads. Unfortunately, Yamamoto was scratched from that day's game due to injury, and he didn't pitch again for months. Fortunately, he came back as good as ever and pitched in 5 games during the Dodgers' World Series playoff run. They won all of them.

Found our seats!

We had time to kill before first pitch, so we left Grandma in the seats and set out to do a lap of the park. Alice noticed this sign. Her elementary school is named Morton as well.

Of course there's a playground in the outfield concourse.

Outfield wall was open for pics. If you could see through my hair and zoom and enhance, you'd see Grandma.

Alice was too busy logo bouncing to join us. They had live music behind us, and a ton of bars and restaurants. We're still an hour before gametime and this place is turning into a party!

Spinny chairs for all!

Ok, time to fuel up and watch the game!

Alice think Yamamoto is pretty good.

But ice cream is better!

Grandma stayed focused...

...and intense.

The kiddos got silly...

...and Grandma was honored on the jumbotron.

It was truly a magical evening. The Dodgers somehow found a way to lose this game, but everything else was perfect. Guess they were just saving up energy to win the World Series for us.

We had the pleasure of staying with Grandma on our trip, and she was a most excellent host. The kids appreciated the elevator rides.

And most of all, the time to sit around and tell stories and hang out together.

Walking around the neighborhood.

Finding cool trees to sit in.

Can't bring the kids to LA without visiting the famous La Brea tar pits!! We barely made it out.

There were oozing piles of tar all over to put stick into.

Yep. It's true.

Inside the museum, we pulled tar.

And looked at the cool fossils buried within.

And of course, the gift shop.

Sloth time

Quite a bearable visit, if I do say so myself.

Grrrrrrr

What an amazing trip! Big thanks to Super Grandma Freda for being an incredible host, grandma, supergrandma, baseball fan, and all around amazing person. Can't explain how much it means for my kids to get to know the same fun-loving energetic Freda I have known since I was their size. Love you!!
