Hallow's Eve with the Murrays

Image
Runnnn!!! The Murrays are coming! The Murrays are coming!! We asked Brock what he wanted to be and not surprisingly, he said "Murray".  Ok. Matt was pumped to bring daddy Murray to fabulous life. Here he is on his first test run.  As mentioned, we partook of the city's free events, our first destination last last weekend was to the Halloween Gathering down by the Bean. Free candy and activities were promised. Just a regular day for Daddy Murray. Soooo, maybe it was because it was the weekend before Halloween and folks just weren't expecting it, but I now know what it feels like to be famous (or more like a groupie since Daddy Murray was clearly the main event) because we got absolutely stared down everywhere we went; most pronounced promenading to the exit of the train platform (the picture above was NOT the platform I mean, no photos of the gaping crowd). Daddy Murray proceeded to scare and surprise all in his path. Daddy Murray w...

More Stuff Brock Says

Image
Hey there everyone. Here's some more stuff from Brock.  8/4: Brock was playing with a train set and a caribou. More accurately, Brock was the train, and I was the caribou. I wanted to ride the train, but Brock was having none of it. "Do you see that sign over there? It says 'NO caribous allowed!'" It says 'NO broccoli!'" It has infinite uses.  So caribou got left behind at the station and Brock-train played by himself in the corner for a while. Then Brock-train came back to the station and said one of the most specifically articulate and honest things I've ever heard.  "I came back because I wanted you to see me. I came back because I wanted you to talk to me."  I'm sure he'll eventually lea...

day of the dead Dia de Los Muertes

Image
Three is a super fun age. This year we were able to take advantage of the city's many free activities aligning with the holiday dejour. Pilsen, Chicago's most noted Hispanic neighborhood houses the National Mexican Heritage Museum that puts on an annual Dia de los Muertos (day of the dead) celebration that we decided to check out. Like many of the other free Chicago events, it was packed, almost to an un-enjoyable degree. The line to get in the museum for some of the fun stuff was an hour... skip it. The face painting line looked less daunting and Brock was psyched for a happy skeleton face so we pony'ed up to what turned out to be a very long wait. One of us kept place while the other took Brock around to sample the festive sprinkle bread and play in the playground.  As Matt tells the story, Brock wanted to go on this equipment but said daddy was too big for the other side. Matt told him he would have to ask someone to join him. Brock apparently sat silently broodi...
