Bowling with Brock

Image
Brock discovered another new gem of a place yesterday. We had plans to go bowling at our regular haunt after swim classes. On the way to school, Brock asked about an interesting looking building we always pass. "What's that place?" "It's a bowling alley." "LET'S GO THERE FOR BOWLING!" I had always thought Waveland Bowl looked pretty old and rundown from the outside, so I spent 10 minutes trying to explain and talk him out of it, but he was determined. It's actually right next to swim class, so I decided we'd try it once. I was so wrong. Waveland Bowl is clean, empty, and beyond cheap. Kids bowl free all summer long. (check out www.kidsbowlfree.com to find a similar deal near you) The one perceived drawback (which actually turned into a huge plus) was that they wouldn't let Brock use a ramp to launch his ball. Ramps are only for the disabled there. Brock was happy to roll with it. By the second game, he was complet...

After School jaunts

Image
Just a few after school jaunts to share. When we were on our way to the Botanical garden I mentioned that there was a white temple that might be visible from the road. It wasn't, so I told Brock I would take him there after school one day.  The Baha'i temple. It was really cool on the inside too, and Brock and I sat there in stillness for a solid 10 minutes, and even then, I was the one who suggested we go back outside. Brock mentions different paths different teachers take when heading toward their park. He wanted to take Ms. Daphne's way so that he could show me the mushrooms.  He did not quite know which road to take, but he described many small windows on a brown house. That was not too helpful, but since there were only 3 lateral streets to his park to choose from, we eventually found it.  He wanted a picture for daddy with his rocket ship work, he was quite proud it seems.  Don't know what was happening here. He asked f...

Hot hot hot! Weekend in Omaha

Image
The heat is on... in Omaha! We were just so sick and tired of the perfect 75degree summer days in Chicago. Heat, schmeat, it's worth giving up our urban paradise for a little quality time with G&G Omaha. The heavily hyped zoo, with its new play ground and Alaska themed splash park were not to disappoint. but who needs a fancy schmancy playground when you have a pride of bronze lions? ur, hippos I mean! Better yet, lizard, yeah, they give better hugs. Brock the bee... Brock the butterfly... Awesome little river for us to wade through. Brock could have spent another 30 minutes here, happily pouring water from a bucket down a side stream, but there was so much more to see! Egg tutorial. As to who was tutoring who here, was questionable. Murray eggs, you imbeciles! Pull yourself across the water raft. Set up for the perfect family schroom photo. A fine beginning... oook... wha wha whaaaa....chaos ensues. ...
