Shame on us! Covid19 5Star getaway to Omaha

Oh hush you. In May, after two months of quarantine, mixed with the promise of good company, good food, open restaurants and shops and a yard is a recipe for a road trip. With the Board of Trade closed, DePaul virtual and Brock's school virtual, it was the perfect time to get away to really the only place we could go. But such a great place!! OMAHA!! YAS!

We arrived just in time for Mother's day and snugs.

Each year we have a tradition of getting a family portrait in the old timey photo booth at the alternative books store that uses real film to process on. This year, no go of course, so we did what we could with our phones and paint.

Brock has been getting into sewing machine sewing and made Grandma some moon and star sachets. So dainty, including the underwear he painted on them.

Everyone is in for some Yertle.

It's mother's day. And we are in free and clear Omaha. I have heard legends about Nebraska Furniture Mart and wth stores all closed in Chicago, and it being dealer's choice for activities, my heart exploded with rainbow sparkles and the opportunity to drag the boys and girl there for some browsing and dreaming.

High on the list of priorities were flooring and tile, as I've been ordering countless samples to the house during the lockdown and nothing looks the same in person as it does online. Here we look for backsplashes for the kitchen with our countertop sample.

Alice falls in love with the little people furniture.

And we find the rug that can tie all the elements of our crazy living room together!

We got some very good ideas, found the perfect rug, and solved our backsplash quandary. And NFM did not disappoint.

Then back to the house to play with some volcanic slime. This is about as close as I got to my annual mother's day spa trip during the pandemic.

And Grandpa and Brock plant an adorable tree. That I think might be dead now, but what a time it had and the joy it gave.

The best thing about planting a tree is cleaning up. With a sonic leaf blower.

Grandma indulges the boy's budding culinary inclination by letting him prepare his own recipe of butternut squash.

Ninja Chef Vs. Gourd.

Aaaannnnd here is the winner. But I can't believe I didn't take a picture of the now infamous rosemary squash. Anyhow, I'll let your mind take you there. Brock actually detests squash, but actually said he liked his recipe. Anything to save face.

Here we are. EATING OUT. Whaaaaaatttt? Brock is already over it, clearly and takes a snooze on the best pillow in town.

Post script...

Ha ha ha! I saw this in my drafts and it was so long ago! And now we are here again, and have been there another time since! I'm clearly behind, but maybe this will give you a small tidbit to chew on.
