Pony up! Alice is 4!
That's right! The littlest Chicago Cerney just pranced up to the big 04.
Image from her party e-vite. Alice chose ponies as her theme. And I have no idea where it came from. She has never spoke of ponies before really, but it just so happened that mom saved me a stash of vintage My Little Pony party paraphernalia. Awesome. Theme on. Sadly, Alice's big day was abashed by the usual suspect.. COVID. But not covid, her covid vaccine. She got her second dose of Moderna the night before and she was feeling the immunity hardcore. Sigh. She vomited water in the morning and was very schloopy. So we called in sick and I was preparing to cancel her party in the park scheduled that afternoon. BUT, was she too sick for presents? Solid no.
She is very determined to have a good birthday.
Alice (and Brock) greatly enjoying the beads from the Knights. Still determined.
Spider will make, have fun birthday, will feel good, will be 4...
In a couple of hours she was feeling ok and I asked school if I could bring her in. Party on!!!
At school, in the Montessori way, she did her walk around the sun ceremony. She also had a little birthday give-away of a take home DIY project to make a beaded pony-ear headband for her classmates to pass out, so it was great to go in.
BUT, sadly, an hour before her party and before pick up, we got a call that her temp was 104 and to come get her. Party off. Sad ponies. Mommy might have been the saddest pony after prepping the whole day for a party that was not to be. BUT, we gave her some IBprof and in a few she was at least in a safe zone and could have a little family celebration. She took a bath and we had a little dinner and sampled the cupcakes that would not exit the stable till the party reschedule of Monday afternoon...
After a bath and a rest with Gabby's Dollhouse she was slightly ready for some more fun.
Strawberry cupcakes with chocolate or vanilla icing. They don't get to go to a party, but a few manage to stable in our bellies.
Brock made Alice a beaded Myrna by the beach (a favorite place of the birthday girl). CUTE.
A wee burning pony.
Next day is new and fresh and no fever! Alice's choice of day is the
beach! And we just happen to have a quite nice one a bus ride away!
Lunch at Castaways, the worst beach cafe ever. But we always go here and still look forward to it. A great place to feel old and fat, but also to see some interesting human specimens of Chicago and have a much needed, but much overcooked, burger.
Alice gets to presents! This might have been in the morning as I see Alice is in jams. Awesome domino set with all the knock-down action and none of those pesky dots. Thanks JJN's!!
Wow!! Critter tree house from Gnuts! Both kids in deep. This Calico Critter playset also perfectly catered to the baby cars.
Well, we did reschedule Alice's birthday shindig for Monday, and a few people even showed up!
Here is pin the tail on the pony circa my childhood. Thanks mom!! It was a hit. Although I'm pretty sure some of the kids peeked, as you can see they all pinned that pony quite right in the booty. A few more spins next time.
Matt had to go to a softball game halfway through, so my pictures, sadly, are dumb and few and far between as I was hosting a lamenting that I chose a park without a bathroom. But the trees are extra-hydrated so all is well. Anyhow, there are a few shots to at least proove that it happened! They might be doing some pinata stuff up above.
Playing in the park after the events conclude.
When she got back to school on Monday, she took this pic with the awesome around the sun pictures from the first 4 years of her life. I think she must have verbalized the descriptions to her teachers judging by the captions.
